Mariposa administers the following two programs:
1) New Hope – Homeless Outreach & Services, (909) 271-3332, Project Director: Connie Parra
Services include, but are not limited to, providing: clothing; hygiene items; blankets and other survival needs; assistance in securing a DMV I.D.; mail, phone, and internet services; bus passes for doctor appointments; emergency dental help; glasses; assistance in obtaining medical insurance and filling out forms for other benefits; resumes; bicycles; forklift certification to prepare for employment; etc.
New Hope also purchases prescribed medications on an emergency basis for those unable to pay.
2) Loaves and Fishes (909) 331-1669, Project Director: Silvia Sanchez
This is an interdenominational effort by 16 Christian churches in the west end of San Bernardino County to feed the hungry. Each Friday evening a free church dinner is provided at one of the participating churches. At these dinners, provisions are distributed free of charge, such as: breakfast bags containing pre-packaged milk, cereal, rolls, and fruit, as well as personal hygiene items.
Medical screenings are provided once a month at the dinners by students from Western University of Health Sciences. These screenings are supervised by medical staff.
